Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring anything with me to rent?
We require a photo ID to be held in the office while you rent. Other popular items to bring are swimsuits, towels, hats, sunscreen, and water. We provide life jackets for all of our rentals.
Do I need a reservation?
No, you do not need reservations to rent with us. However, we do recommend making a reservation if you are visiting on vacation or need multiple vessels for your visit to ensure availability.
Do I need to have kayaking/paddleboard experience to rent?
No, you do not need to have any experience to rent our kayaks or paddleboards. It is up to the discretion of our staff to decide whether or not a renter is at the adequate skill level for each vessel. Staff will run through the basics with you before you hit the water.
What are the age requirements?
No one under the age of 5 is allowed on any of our rentals at any time. Children between 5 and 11 must be with one adult per child. Children must be 12 years old to go alone. A parent or guardian needs to sign the waiver for anyone under 18 years of age.
What should I do if I need assistance on the water?
Each life jacket is equipped with a whistle to be blown in case of emergency. In addition, we have a lookout that monitors all of the vessels on the water. We can see boats that have capsized and renters in distress and will send staff on a motorboat to assist you.
Do I need to bring my own life jacket?
No, we are able to provide life jackets to everyone. However, you are welcome to bring your own USCG-approved life jacket if you’d like.
Where can I park?
Parking on West Rodney French Blvd is season pass sticker parking only. You can purchase a season pass on the parking app. Alternatively, you can park at Hazelwood Park.
Rental Cancellation Policy?
Customers will receive a full refund or credit if cancellation is made 24 hours prior to the rental reservation. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Contact us by phone (774) 929-6015 or email (rentals@communityboating.orgcreate new email) to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price. All reservations will be held for 15 minutes past check-in time. If a rental customer is more than 15 minutes late, their rental may be cancelled or re-booked.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are not allowed on our rentals. Please note that dogs are not allowed on NB beaches when lifeguards are on duty.
What clothing should I wear?
It is best to dress for the conditions. In the summer, almost any clothing that can get wet is fine. Hats, sunglasses, and other sun protection is recommended. Don’t forget to bring a set of clothes to change into once the day is over! Remember that it’s colder on the water than it is on land. We recommend wearing layers that you can remove as necessary.
What happens if the weather is bad when I am scheduled to be on the water?
We will issue a full refund or credit in case of cancellation due to weather. We will do our best to make a weather decision in the morning before we open and a staff member will contact you if your reservation is going to be cancelled.
How long does my rental last?
Rentals can be for 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.
What happens if I return my rental later than the time slot that I paid for?
We reserve the right to charge an additional fee for a rental returned past when it’s due.
What happens if I lose or damage the equipment?
We reserve the right to charge an additional fee for any lost or damaged equipment.
Can I beach my kayak and walk somewhere else?
You are welcome to do so, within our stated boundaries, however, we encourage you to stay close to your equipment at all times. Remember that you are responsible for it and for returning it at the end of your rental period. Remember also to respect private property.
