Winter Programming
with our sisters’ school
We are fortunate to work with the students from Our Sisters’ School throughout the year. During our winter session, our instructors go there Monday-Thursday and work with one grade each day.
CBC + OSS
For the last few years, we have been building boats, both models and full size Bevins, but we didn’t feel that program was safe given current social distancing guidelines. Given the pandemic this year, we changed things up and came up with other STEM learning projects that we could do; we started them three weeks ago. We will work with these students for two more weeks, before they come back to CBC to sail the week after April vacation.
The 5th and 6th graders are learning about the ocean and marine environment. So far, they have learned what makes a good boat, and about buoyancy and plankton. The 7th grade is working on a new program for us, From Poseidon to Paper, where they are making seaweed presses and will be creating works of art from the pressings, which will then be displayed publically this summer. The 8th graders are building underwater ROVs, using a kit as base, but using their creativity to fabricate their own frame designs.
We are fortunate to be able to continue this work despite the challenges of the current school year!
