NEW BEDFORD, FEBRUARY 9, 2021 The Community Boating Center of New Bedford is the latest local organization to commit to switching over to 100-percent renewable electricity. Executive Director Andy Herlihy signed on to The Climate Reality Project’s 100% Committed campaign this month, pledging that CBC’s electricity would come entirely from renewable sources by 2030. Numerous other local businesses and nonprofits* also have agreed to transition to 100% renewable electricity in this decade.
This announcement comes at a time when both the reality of the climate crisis and the practical steps to solve it have never been clearer. Seventeen of the 18 hottest years on record globally have occurred in this century, with 2016 and 2019 nearly tied for hottest overall. Meanwhile, oceans are rising, warming, and spawning ever more severe coastal storms around the globe. The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season also set several unwelcome records.
“We are delighted to make the 100% Committed pledge and partner with Climate Reality Massachusetts Southcoast. We’re proud to join forces in support of the long-term health of our vulnerable coastal community,” said Mr. Herlihy “We recognize that we face the combined risks of sea level rise, ocean warming, and increased severity of storms, and we’re ready to undertake the collective task of preserving our precious local environment. At CBC, we believe that each of us has a responsibility to help combat climate change and improve our environment.”

I challenge other organizations across the Southcoast to join us in being 100% Committed to switching to renewable electricity by 2030. Together, we truly are an unstoppable force for change.”
