Float Haul 2020

Blog | 0 comments

This past Monday we hauled our docks out of the water, an event that marks the official end of our sailing season.  Despite a midnight coldfront with 40 knot gusts, Monday morning gave us clear skies, and 15 knots of wind from the West–all in all, a fair weather day. Hauling our docks is a process we have come to master over the years, but it still requires a lot of planning, preparation, good weather, and celestial alignment. Well at least a lunar high tide!

Our staff and volunteers have become adept at the process and are willing to arrive every year at the break of dawn on the chosen day to tow all the docks to the beach to be lifted out of the water by crane, generously provided by Bayline Inc. Boatyard and Transport. The plan is extensive, but teamwork is crucial, each person focuses on their role and in the end, the process goes smoothly.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported CBC this year. We faced many challenges, as everyone has, and it is thanks to our wonderful supporters, volunteers, and staff that we were able to have a sailing season at all.

Thank you, Taber

Palmer’s Island

At CBC, we strive to teach our participants how to be good ocean stewards and we know that an important part of that is that we lead by example. As part of our continued efforts on this front, we have committed, along with our partners at Operation Clean Sweep, to get many years’ worth of debris off of Palmer’s Island in New Bedford Harbor before the end of this year.
