One day in August the crew rowing Leviathan were thrown akimbo and dropped crookedly down to the floor of the boat when the starboard seat rail ripped out or bent all its nails. This boat was built by Anchor Academy students 2 years earlier. I called them up to ask if they would like to do the repair.
A week later I drove it up for the repair and the beginning of our outdoor, pandemic-style, boatbuilding class. The crew who built her had her repaired and back together in 2 hours. So I brought them another vessel for a complete paint job. A few weeks later, with 2 coats of paint on everything, and 10 coats varnish on the oars we’re ready to go afloat.

Palmer’s Island
