Thanks to a generous grant from The Humane Society of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a charitable organization whose focus is “the prevention of accident, injury and death primarily on the waters,” CBC is now going to be able to update and upgrade one of our most important tools–our life jackets! Our number one rule around here is that anyone on one of our boats, or even on our dock, needs to be wearing one. Yesterday John Faus, East Coast Rep for MTI Life Jackets came to our headquarters to show us some options. Our intern, Adilson, graciously agreed to model them for us and give us his thoughts on which one we should choose and why. A little bit about his experience is below.
Today was a very interesting and eye opening day for me at CBC! I had the pleasure of meeting one of the sales rep from MTI Life Jackets, who brought in a couple of cool looking life jackets for us to look at. My first instinct when he put the life jackets on the table was to find the best color scheme. However, after he started talking about the comfort and technical parts of a life jacket and what may best suit a person. I started to really think and understand why it’s very important for a life jacket to fit a person’s body shape comfortably, but also have it to their liking. As an instructor I could relate to my current life jacket which is a hand-me-down and doesn’t fit me comfortably because it was bought for the person who had it before me and their body type and not mine. Our decision is important because after all, CBC will not only be giving me an opportunity to own my own life jacket, but so can the rest of our staff, and the kids who come to CBC will use them as well.
